Ranked: Largest Buyers of American Corn

Corn remains one of America's most valuable agricultural exports, and its buyers span nearly every continent. But one neighbor stands far above the rest.

In 2024, corn exports accounted for $13.7bn, with the top 3 buyers accounting for more than 70% of total export value, while Mexico single handedly contributed to 40%.

Mexico is by far the largest buyer of american corn, importing $5.5 billion worth, more than double the next closest buyer.

Japan follows at $2.7 billion, with Colombia rounding out the top three at $1.5 billion.

Beyond the top tier, demand drops off sharply.

South Korea ($689 million) and Canada ($450 million) represent solid mid sized markets, while the EU, Taiwan, and China each import under $400 million.

Smaller buyers like Guatemala and Saudi Arabia, each import under $300 million.

The concentration at the top, particularly Mexico's outsized share, underscores how deeply intertwined U.S. agricultural exports are with regional trade relationships, especially across North America.
